If a prisoner is unnecessarily searched then their likelihood to rebel increases. One side effect of searching is that it pisses off your prisoners. Once you find an item of contraband you can track the trail of where it has travelled in your prison, seeing how it was smuggled in and where it was hidden. And, if things are getting very ropy, you can order a search of your entire prison. If your holding cell crew are seeming shifty you can order a search of every item and prisoner in a specific room. Or, if you have suspicions about a particular prisoner, you can order a specific person to be patted down. If a metal detector discovers an item it orders a search to be carried out on that prisoner as soon as a guard is available. Searching prisoners comes in a variety of flavours.

Similarly, all day visitation provides a more frequent route for contraband to come in. If you have a nice prison, with televisions to entertain your convicts and bookshelves, then you’re providing new hiding spots for them. Every item in your prison is a potential hiding place for illegal items. Prisoners won’t just hide things in their cells, they’ll find cubby holes all over the prison.

If a prisoner has a very high entertainment need and it’s not being satisfied by your facilities then they will seek out other sources of pleasure. Every person coming into the prison could be a potential smuggler, bringing drugs, cigarettes, a mobile phone, or weapons.Ĭontrolling all this is a new prisoner ‘wants’ system. Possibly of highest concern is the visitors room. Diligent guards posted in the room should limit anything getting out but you can never be too sure.
